Tonight I watched a CNN News special, "Fixing Education." It was a great report on the state of education and how our students can become more successful in the classroom. One section of the program really caught my attention as an at-home tool for extra practice. Khan Academy is an online at-home "tutor," that has millions of videos about math, science, and social studies skills. Endorsed by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Bill Gates's initiative to improve educational achievement in our nation, this free website allows students to work at their own pace to solve problems about almost any topic.
I am sharing this information because it would be a great tool for our fantastic fourth graders to use in order to really master what we learn in class. Check out the website! The most helpful section I found is listed under the browser library heading "Developmental Math." In this section, you will find almost every topic we have worked on in math so far this year!

Welcome Fantastic Fourth Graders, Friends, and Families! At this website, you will be connected with the best and brightest of Urbana Elementary. Enjoy the information and let's LEARN!

I'm a big fan of Khan Academy, too! It's a wonderful resource for catering to individual student interests and needs! Parents can follow it on Facebook for updates and new additions to the site. Thanks for sharing, Ms. Fagan!
